Walking in Greenwood is limited by its linear shape, as well as the incomplete sidewalk grid. Convenient and fast local transit would extend the effective range of pedestrian trips and reduce short car trips. At present, Greenwood transit depends on city-wide bus routes and better serves commuters.
There are a number of immediate, near term and future transit improvements we want to investigate and implement:
Immediate Shelters at all bus stops. Safe pedestrian crossings near bus stops.
A Metro Route 5 shuttle bus running between the Broadview Library and Woodland Park Zoo, emphasizing off-peak and weekend service.
Near term (1-5 years) A shuttle van system, providing circulation transit around Greenwood-Phinney Ridge-Crown Hill-NSCC-Broadview. Inclusion of a transit center within a redeveloped Greenwood Town Center.
Future (5-15 years) An
automated small-vehicle peoplemover serving a network of bus stop-sized
stations around Greenwood-Phinney Ridge-Crown Hill-NSCC-Broadview.
Examples of this kind of 'horizontal elevator' technology are now being
piloted in Britain and Sweden. Such a network could be extended to
Northgate, providing convenient access to the planned light rail
station.
